A town with public benches is a civilized kind of town. Benches and sidewalks. Sidewalks and benches. Benches where a dad can help a kid with a messy ice cream cone, where an older citizen can take a break from his daily constitutional, where a shopper can organize her armload of purchases.
I’m grateful to the town government, the independent library, the performing arts center, and — especially — the many businesses that pay to place and maintain benches in Concord. It’s the little things that make for quality of life.
Want to send me a photo of a public bench in your town? How about you, Arlington? Stockholm?
Can’t wait to send a few photos from tiny Brooksville, Maine
Oh, please do!
I don’t live in an actual town but I know that the hiking paths at the nearby state park have benches along the way, with small plaques commemorating folks who once loved to walk there. It’s a nice way to remember someone . . .
And a nice why to take a breather from an energetic hike.
In our town ,which you don’t want to blink your eyes when going through it or you’ll miss it, the bench is called “Midville cafe” ,which does have a bench on the outside if you choose to sit outside, but the fun is mostly inside.😀
Especially in the heat, I imagine.
You know it ,as the temps were in the 100’s yesterday
Oh, my goodness. I assume you have AC?
We do have AC!🙂
I will send you some.
That would be great.
Love it that these benches aren’t all chained down too!!! Speaks highly for the town!! 🙂
I hadn’t noticed that. I think the very public locations help to ensure that a potential bench vandal thinks twice.
