Blue Ridge Mountains.
Today’s challenge features my favorite lines from “America the Beautiful,” the 1895 poem by Katharine Lee Bates, with music by Samuel A. Ward. The challenge is to sing it along with me — outloud — without choking up.
“O beautiful for spacious skies,
“For amber waves of grain,
“For purple mountain majesties
“Above the fruited plain! …
“America! America!
“God mend thine ev’ry flaw,
“Confirm thy soul in self-control,
“Thy liberty in law.”
Yes, mend thine ev’ry flaw!
To become “The Beautiful,” we can’t start by thinking we’re perfect.
I can’t even *read* it without getting choked up.
Well, I was singing it to myself on my walk the other day, and it’s a good thing I walk where there are no people!
Yes. Sang tonight while looking at a stupendously beautiful moon. As Tiny Tim said, God bless us every one!
Oh, Pennsylvania! Bless us now.
