Himachal rains: Chandigarh-Manali highway blocked at multiple places.
Blogger Friends,
Has anything like this happened to you? My June post about earthquake resistant construction in India elicited a cry for help today from a flooded part of the same country.
Here it is.

“I am from Himachal. Currently buildings have collapsed in Shimla, Manali and Mandi due to Heavy rains. I need to learn about old Earthquake Resistant Structures. Kindly help.”
I did a Google search and found out about the flooding August 14. But I am not someone who can advise about such things. All I do is share stories. I suggested trying to contact the expert in the article at his university.
I wish I could do more. All of a sudden, after posting an article that interested me, I am connected to a person in India who urgently wants my advice on earthquake resistant structures! It’s both wonderful and scary. What would you do? Have you encountered anything similar?

WOW. I have not had this experience. Suddenly their huge challenges become very personal…
That’s just it. And one feels somehow responsible to do something.
That is proof you’re touching the world with your posts. I hope they find the help they need. Would Habitat for Humanity be able to help?
That’s a thought. I don’t know if they are in India.
Looks like they are: https://habitatindia.org/
Yes, I had that happen when I wrote about a hunger striker in Manipur, India, and I ended up drawn into her story: a man who had become involved with her personally commented on my entry. Because of him, I got involved in her situation, writing letters to her and on her behalf, posting a video, etc. Eventually she ended her hunger strike and went on to life as a private citizen with the man in question in a different part of India.
I think your way of handling it (I went back and saw your response) is perfect. I’ll send you more thoughts by email.
That’s so interesting! And I loved the added thoughts you sent by email. I might have known you would have seen a situation like that through to the end!
No, I’ve never been in an earthquake, can’t even begin to understand what those dear folks face.
Oh, the person just thought that because I had quoted an article on earthquake proofing, maybe I could help. But I don’t know where to turn anymore than they do.
