This is my 1,000th post! Thanks to everyone for sticking around.
Back in May 2011, Suzanne and Erik asked me to write a blog for Suzanne’s birthstone jewelry company, Luna & Stella. They said I could write about anything that interested me.
Anything!? How could I resist?
Luna & Stella gift giving is all about relationships and relations, and I’m certainly a relation.
One time a woman who was nervous about buying online checked out the blog, felt like it helped her know the family a little, and decided Suzanne would be an OK person to buy from.
Want a gift certificate?
I’m going to list a few of my favorite posts. They are mostly recent because it’s hard to remember all 1,000. If you comment on your own favorite post from Suzanne’s Mom’s Blog before February 1, Suzanne will enter you in a drawing for a $100 gift certificate. She said we should do something special for the 1,000th entry.
Here are a few of my favorite entries.
This one, here, is about a funny episode at the “On the Media” radio show, with songs that Broadway professionals wrote for corporate conventions.
“Iceland Has Elves” got me started on a whole Iceland kick. (If you can get your hands on the video Cold Fever, you are in for a strange but fun treat. Thank you, Asakiyume.)
Will you comment on a favorite post, too? Write your comment before February 1, Suzanne says, and she will enter you in a drawing to win a $100 Luna & Stella gift certificate. Valentine’s Day is coming up, you know, not to mention Mother’s Day. And Luna & Stella has birthstone cufflinks for Father’s Day, too.
And thank you so much for hanging on for my daily posts.

I will stick around. Looking forward for the next 1000 to come. I am learning a lot.
Thanks so much. I am learning from you, too!
From the very beginning I’ve loved following your blog; the unexpected treasures that you dig up and the wonderful stories highlighted in the blog that I for one, would never have discovered otherwise.
So I find it difficult to pick just one favorite post.. there are so many interesting stories that come to mind; all in very different categories. One that I found very moving was about the group Young at heart and the old man singing “Fix you” (with a “must watch” youtube clip): https://suzannesmomsblog.com/2011/06/29/young-at-heart/
In the surprising category, I enjoyed finding out that you happened to stumble on a Banksy in Boston: https://suzannesmomsblog.com/2012/03/21/accidental-banksy/ At the time I had seen some works by Banksy but didn’t know much about him, so I liked learning more in later posts such as this one: https://suzannesmomsblog.com/2013/08/09/banksy-bless-his-heart/
It is great how you manage to weave in stories about family; training the grandparents (which you mention) was a personal favorite. It captured so well how a hyper energetic, 20-month boy, would describe his grandparents, if he could: https://suzannesmomsblog.com/2013/12/01/training-the-grandparents/
Then, of course, there are the posts about nature and arts, many that combine both:
or that have a personal take on art, such as this poem by two eight year olds: https://suzannesmomsblog.com/2012/01/13/creativity-at-age-8/
As I said, it is hard to pick “One” favorite, when there are so many!! I look forward to much interesting reading. Thank you!
Erik
Wow. Thank you! Are are a really close reader, Beagling. And I’m glad you reminded me about the poem by two eight-year-olds, a happy memory. I won’t put you in the drawing as you are rather close family, but you deserve special recognition for noticing that I blogged at work and might enjoy blogging for Luna & Stella. I do. I look forward to it every day.
Congratulations on your thousandth post, and on your nomination! It is *so* hard to pick a favorite entry; let me go back and find a few I’ve especially liked.
A lot of WordPress bloggers come up with awards and nominations, but what I didn’t take in last November was that The Oracle actually reviewed the blog. I hope yours gets reviewed. You are my mentor. (Thanks for thinking about favorites. I will enter you in the drawing.)
Okay, this is in **no way** all of them, but one I really, really loved, and which has stayed with me (in fact, I used an image from it as an icon), was your discussion of American poverty, here, which included a link back to the website American poverty. And I’ve loved your posts on language–this esperanto one, for instance, and also the one where you talked about Liet International.
You’ve also had many arts-related posts I’ve loved, like this one on the strange and beautiful teacups of Anne Krauss, or the one on reverse graffiti. But there have been many, many more. My memory is so poor, I have to prompt myself by looking through what entries of yours I’ve linked to, or what ones I’ve cross-posted photos to Tumblr from, or what ones I’ve hit “like” on. I love the diversity of things you cover. ♥
My goodness. What a lovely testimonial. Suzanne asked me to pick my favorites, and I couldn’t remember very far back. You have outdone me. Thanks for these memories — and thanks for all the help and advice you have given me since I started.
My fav one is about the older couple photoshoot. They look so nice with the balloons:)
Thanks, Natalia. I like that one, too. I am entering you in the drawing, and we’ll be in touch if you win.
February 1, 2014: Brenda won the $100 gift certificate from Luna & Stella, http://www.LunaandStella.com, in honor of my 1,000th post! Thanks to everyone for commenting.
