Photos: Suzanne and John’s Mom.
My older granddaughter made a gingerbread house from a kit, and I helped a little with decorating.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. A few photos for Christmas Eve.
In addition to helping out on the gingerbread house, I managed (on the peaceful days between Covid and the Covid rebound) to make the cookies from John’s preschool recipe in the tiny new kitchen. Sometimes it feels like we are in a boat cabin here.
On a recent walk in the lovely Sleepy Hollow cemetery, I noted that some family couldn’t bear thinking of their departed loved one without a decorated tree. So they brought a living one to the cemetery. I want to get one like that next year as I just found out cut trees are not allowed here.
Still, it looked cute when it first went up.
The Nativity scene was from another walk.
Now be sure to listen blogger Will McMillan sing John Bucchino’s song “Grateful,” here. It expresses my exact feelings, and Will is so good at conveying the emotional side of every song.

I adore the whimsical icicles dripping from the roof of that house you helped make, and would love to have a platter of your cookies! Merry Christmas
Thank you, Babsje! The whimsical icicles are all to the granddaughter’s credit. She developed a special flick of the wrist to create the effect. Merry Christmas!
Love the house
It’s ready for someone from a fairytale to move in!
What fun baking. Pretty tree. Merry Christmas!
And to you!
Love this blog post — so personal, and humble in the same way that I find the sheep and their shepherds are in nativity scenes. The nativities are really getting to me this year. Your last photo was a gem, with the shepherd and animals patient and respectfully present over to the left side. xoMeredith
Meredith, I can count on your artist’s eye to see deeply. I am moved by one creche in our town where the manger stays empty for weeks, waiting. Suddenly on Christmas morning, a baby appears in it.
The gingerbread house is brilliant!
It was easy, too. I bet you would make your own gingerbread. This house comes ready made in pieces just the right size to fit into the slots of a tray where you squeeze in frosting for cement!
It’s been a while since we last made one! Something to remember for next year. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas 🎄🥗😊
And to you, My Dear. I hope your fine family helped to make up for the empty place at the table.
What an honor to be included in your lovely Christmas blog post!
Would be great if you had a YouTube video, too, that I could embed!
I haven’t gotten started with YouTube videos ever since my original YouTube video channel (from 15 years ago) became inaccessible to me due to leaving CCAE (and losing my email account there to which that channel was/is linked…) Maybe a new video channel would be a worthy goal for 2024…
