A bouncy boat ride in heavy rain last night. A warm sunny morning. Here are a few photos from my last island weekend of 2015.
An especially nice autumnal theme for the Painted Rock. Whoever painted it was lucky to have their artwork survive nearly three days. That would be unheard of in the summer, when birthday messages get painted over by wedding felicitations several times a day.
Down the bluffs on a steep path. Waves breaking on the beach. Tide pools.
I was delighted to find a little urchin (I don’t think I ever had before) and a slipper shell with a smaller slipper shell hitching a ride.
ahhhhh, these are beautiful! I miss BI! And, I have never seen an autumnal theme on the painted rock! That rock must be an extra inch or two thick with all that paint! cheers
An archaeologist would have a field day with the layers. It’s the pure democracy: good art, bad art, thoughtful messages, silly messages, sometimes mean messages. Whenever a person or a family can find some paint and get themselves over there.
There’s something extra-special about the weekend when you know it’s the last weekend of the summer. We’ll be sitting outside by the lake tonight, with a campfire, for what is almost surely the last time this year–can’t wait!
I like these season-marking ceremonies. End-of-season thinking is the reason Erik took a swim in the ocean Sunday. He said the water was pretty warm, but it was really cold coming out into the October breezw.
Enjoyed your lovely photos. Wish I’d seen you in person.
Haven’t forgotten your invitation to send poetry. May the rest of the fall and the winter be kind to you and your family.
Thank you, NWG, and best wishes to you, too, for a beautiful fall.
