Crabby Lager and Other Photos

I liked the Crabby Lager poster outside the Barking Crab today. The popular restaurant is as rough-hewn as ever, but its Seaport neighborhood has gone upscale. The Barking Crab now shares a spanking new sidewalk with a boutique hotel called the Envoy. (The lettering for the hotel’s name is too esoteric for words. Took me 10 minutes to figure it out.)

In other photos, I couldn’t resist beautiful weeds in grungy corners. I don’t know the name of the purple bells, but the other flower is bindweed. Or maybe Morning Glory.

The old warehouse (I can’t resist old warehouses) is in Fort Point, a part of South Boston that the artist in the last photo is painting from the other side of the channel.

More Boston and Rhode Island Photos

The Barking Crab is watching one of many new Seaport buildings go up on its doorstep but wants you to know it is still around and serving seafood.

I was going to use the Barking Crab’s new fence to write a philosophical post with a title like “Nothing is Constant but Change.” Unfortunately, after a couple months, I still couldn’t think of anything philosophical to say and gave up. So here are some more random shots from my peregrinations.

A couple hundred yards from the Barking Crab, a teaching sailboat is once again docked for the summer. In Dewey Square, the Greenway demonstration garden is growing, and the coffee guy is making espresso for customers. One day this week, I saw him teaching a group of schoolchildren about how it all works.

Meanwhile in Rhode Island, a rider was exercising a horse in the early morning, and at night, a rainbow appeared and a lovely sunset.

Another Harvest of Photos

No real theme among the collection today.

The first picture is of a rock that gets repainted all summer long — sometimes a few times a day — with pictures and messages of various kinds. This painting features mermaids, starfish, and octopi.

I also wanted to include some more lovely clouds, the old Massachusetts state house (dwarfed by modern buildings like Virginia Lee Burton‘s Little House), a warehouse interior repurposed as an elegant atrium for a Fort Point hotel, another one of those “Play Me, I’m Yours” street pianos, the Barking Crab restaurant sign, and a sleeping bee.  “When a bee lies sleepin’ …” (Do you know the Harold Arlen song from the 1954 musical House of Flowers?)

Perhaps there’s a theme after all: Trying to see what is right in front of me.
